A community-led response to development finance

Derecho, Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (DAR)

DAR will coordinate a collective effort by civil society groups around the world to minimize the adverse impacts that Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), governments and other actors have on vulnerable communities in the context of COVID-19. This joint effort will support the participation of communities in recovery package negotiations. The project also seeks to ensure that DFIs' environmental and social safeguard policies are both transparent and consistent with international human rights standards.

Why is now the time to act?

“We need to act now to ensure that affected communities that haven’t received DFI and/or government aid have adequate medical supplies to face the pandemic. It’s crucial that DFIs put promised safeguards in place to protect Indigenous communities. Adequate communication between DFIs and the communities impacted by their investments is also essential to reduce the risk of encroachment on community rights.”
