Building online capacity for workers

International Trade Union Confederation

This project will strengthen the collective organization and voice of workers across the world to act as a counterbalance to corporate power and interests, to hold governments accountable and to shape the terms of work and the policies that impact workers' daily lives. ITUC will represent workers’ interests in international bailout and recovery packages. It will support trade unions as they adopt technology and online platforms to organize workers in the COVID-19 context and beyond.

Why is now the time to act?

“We are experiencing a decrease in worker power, creating a democratic imbalance on national and global levels. There is currently a slowdown in unions’ efforts to address equity issues (such as violence on the work floor) and sustainability issues (such as a just transition). This initiative seeks to guarantee decent work by promoting systemic change that shapes a just and inclusive future and leads to a more balanced and sustainable economy. It builds worker capacity, advancing the quality of democracy through social dialogue and civic engagement. Finally, will support union efforts to improve health and safety standards.”
