Towards a better and community-controlled global food system

GRAIN

This initiative seeks to ensure that the solutions to multiple global crises—the pandemic, along with climate, hunger and inequality—involve local and environmentally sustainable food production, trade and consumption. By bolstering collective strategies with partners across the world, this project aims to build stronger alliances to confront power imbalances and their impacts on local communities. The project is global in scale and addresses trade, financial investments, corporate power, peasant struggles and food systems. The initiative is developed in collaboration with bilaterals.org.

Why is now the time to act?

“Unless the global food system is reoriented towards local and environmentally sustainable production, trade and consumption, we risk losing access to safe and healthy food for all. Strengthened local food economies will contribute to a more sustainable food production model and ensure equitable access to food.”
