Rights for hospitality workers in the Southern Cone
Global Labor Justice–International Labor Rights Forum
In partnership with UNI Americas, GLJ–ILRF will build worker power in Southern Cone countries. This includes strengthening the capacity of Chilean and Peruvian hospitality workers who demand fair, safe and healthy working conditions to organize, campaign and negotiate. The project seeks to make lasting improvements for workers, demonstrating that it's possible to build power and promote new forms of sectoral bargaining at the national and regional levels—even in a global pandemic.
Why is now the time to act?
“Major corporations will exploit the pandemic as a pretext for union busting. There is is also a risk that without fair representation, hospitality workers will not be considered in COVID-related labor policies. With a focus on women, youth and migrant workers, this initiative will increase worker power in both the industry and in democratic processes.”
